I finally completed the process that started in October of 2009, and we're now running off of a new bit of hardware. It's much quieter.

We've moved.

If you look up in the left corner over there, the more discerning of you might have noticed that the address is different. After almost 15 years we have left our comfy home at 645-G and moved into the next building, with our old buddies the Moving Pictures boys.
There was nothing about this that was easy. We went back and forth about the decision for the better part of a year before finally saying, yep, it's the thing to do. Then the packing, and throwing things away part started, only to be placed on the back burner for a while.
We had planned on being out by the end of May, June at the worst.
November first we gave the landlord back the keys. Being packrats really sucks when it comes time to move your belongings. A lot of stuff got donated, a lot got moved into a storage unit, a lot got thrown away. And a pile of PA gear is sitting in the wayback at Moving Pictures.
It's nice there, Mpicts is. They like us. The studio is better sound conditioned than our old one ever was, and much much bigger.
My office is smaller, but there's fish tank out in the lobby, so that's something.
And the people are all silly.
So there you go. A brand new era.

One year ago today we brought Eddie and Holly home to live with us. We can hardly believe that it's been a full year.
Hug your kids or pets.

So What Are You Guys Going To Do?
Posted by: AuntJean [July 28, 2006 6:16 PM]
Rege and Barb Malady have decided to close the Celtic Trader at the end of July. Last night (July 27th) we had "The Last Jam", an Irish Wake of epic proportions.
Over and over again, folks asked us, "Are you staying?"
Well, yeah, we are. We've signed a new lease for one year to give us a chance to see if we can afford the place all on our own. The landlord is being very co-operative with us: he wants us to stay.

It's going to be weird not having Rege and Barb around all the time. Okay, weird is too soft a word, it's going to be f'ing awful. But closing the store is what they need to do right now, just like moving into the Pressley space was the right thing to do thirteen years ago.
This wasn't just a store, after all. Rege was the midwife to a generation of musicians here in Charlotte, and losing that hurts all of us more than just losing a source for CD's. You could tell that it was the community that folks were mourning last night.

We've been talking with some folks about taking up some of the soon to be empty (in more ways than one) space, but we're in the middle of the Swannanoa Gathering right now. So that's going to be an August job.

In the mean time, raise a dram to the tall guy and wish him well.

Ya know, if I had a dime for every time I tested something, I could hire somebody to do it for me.
